As a yoga student, your duty is to follow the instructions given and try to keep up with the rest of the class. It can get challenging at times, but if you put your mind to it, you’ll definitely be able to get there eventually. Every once in awhile, we meet someone who inspires us. Perhaps, your yoga instructor is an inspiration towards you, so much so that you tell yourself that you want to be like that one day. Well, Rebecca Ramey is one of many students who after practicing yoga, decided to pursue it and become an instructor.

In order for anyone to become a yoga instructor, they are required to attend a course. Rebecca recently finished her 230-hour intensive training in Asheville, N.C. in the United States. She has officially become a RYT 200 Hour yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance. She has even started her own school and yoga classes at Halifax Yoga, which is located in the Town of Halifax in the lower level of Saint John’s Episcopal Church . I really wanted to teach my classes in the Town of Halifax because it is a great central location for the entire county. St. John’s is a great space, and they have been wonderfully supportive of me,” she said.

One thing that sets Rebecca’s classes apart from that of others is that her classes are open to students of any level. “Having the classes open to all levels allows students the flexibility to take classes at the time that best fits their schedule.  My students have told me that I have a great ability at offering modifications to poses when needed for those less experienced or with injuries,” she explained.

Her first ever teaching experience occurred when she was just a student. The instructor for the class failed to show up on that day, so Rebecca offered to lead the class as she was aware of the journey people would take to come just for the class. Even herself and her friend drove all the way up just to attend the class. “I couldn’t get the experience out of my head.  I have taken yoga for almost 10 years, and always thought that it would be great to actually teach the classes, but I never thought I would have the confidence to do so.  That experience made me realize that I could do it,” stated Rebecca. At OMG Yoga, we believe in guiding our students, so that they can build up their own self confidence. Yes, not everyone is like Rebecca, who had the courage to step forward and conduct a class as a student. However, we would like to guide our students so that one day they will be able to practice on their own without any assistance. Do check our website for more details.
