In a country as huge as the United States, it can sometimes be quite a challenge to even find a nearby location conducting yoga classes. Well, things are going to be a lot more easier now, not just for the United States, but for 63 countries worldwide. Om Lovers, an iPhone app, assists in determining a user’s location and detecting yoga classes happening at studios close to their surroundings. It even includes the timing and directions to the venue.

The app is even capable of finding specific types of yoga classes, ranging from hatha to vinyasa to everything else in between. “The vision was to get more people on planet earth doing yoga,” stated  Nancy Richardson, vice president of digital and brand strategy at Vancouver-based yoga apparel company Lululemon. So far, a total of 7,000 studios across 63 countries have been included in the app. Users will even be able to filter both the time and type of class. “It offers lots of different options to try different classes, types of yoga, and experience different teachers,” added Nancy.

If you thought this app couldn’t be any better, guess what? It even includes over 30,000 instructor profiles along with a schedule of their upcoming classes. This makes it a whole lot easier to keep track of the schedules of one’s favourite instructors. According to Rachel Acheson, vice president of brand and community at Lululemon, the turnover rate for yoga participation is relatively high. As of now, there are approximately 20 million people practicing yoga. Unfortunately, 20 per cent of these participants tend to drop out annually. “The new people to yoga every year is substantial. Finding your teacher is one of the biggest things that drives commitment to the practice,” explained Rachel.

The app also allows users to invite their friends to join in via sending a text, tweet, email or Facebook message. At the same time, it keeps track of the classes they are headed to. Since its inception on Thursday, the app has already accumulated some 18,000 downloads by Saturday. The popularity of it went on to secure the top spot in the Health and Fitness category on Apple’s App Store in Canada and the third spot in the category in the US.
